Hamid El Shairi is a Libyan artist born in Bengazi on November 29,1961.

His mother, who died when he was just 13 years old, was Egyptian. She was the one who encouraged him to play music. In fact, on one occasion, she offered him an organ. He learned to play the organ by himself and continued to perform as an amateur in wedding ceremonies and private parties.

In the early 1970s, he joined the music group of the National Libyan TV to leave it after a short period due to sharp differences in opinions between the two parts. Few years later, Hamid traveled to England in order to undertake studies in an aeronautics school.

At the same time, he used to rent recording studios hourly and he recorded many songs. The recordings helped him to connect with Egyptian producers and music makers. In 1983, he released his first album "Ouyouneha" which was not successful at all. Two years later, he released a second album "Rahil".

The album had a huge success in Egypt, the Arab world as well as in Europe. Since then, Hamid has become a renowned artist and has released several albums such as "Senin" in 1985, "Kawahel" in 1991, "Sadik" in 1995, "Ghazali" in 2000, and "Rouh Essamara" in 2006. Throughout his career, Hamid has played in two movies "Kechr Elbondok" in 1995 and "Ayadouna" in 2006.
