Bio
Read more
Sabah Fakhry , an iconic singing Legend, born in the city of Alep, Syria, in 1933. At a young age, he enrolled in the Academy of music in Alep, and later in the Academy of Damascus from which he graduated in 1948. He was given the name Fakhry by his mentor Fakhri Elbaroudi, who was a national leader at the time. At that age, he performed in perfection, and one of his earliest performances was at the presidential palace before the president and the prime minister.
Unlike many artists, Sabah always believed that his fame and success would be reached on the ground of his homeland, Syria. He soon became one of the best Arab singers of all times, due to the powerful vocals he possessed, and also to his mastering the Art of “Muwashahat” and “Makamat”, which are considered as special sub-categories of the Arab music, besides their being very celebrational and very hard to be performed.
Sabah started touring the world beginning with the Arab world, Europe, the Americas, and then Australia. His name was enshrined in Guinness Book of Records, following his 10 hours continuous performance in Caracas, Venezuela. Sabah also held the position of a Syrian parliament member representing the Artists community. He was awarded and tributed in uncountable occasions by presidents, kings, cultural figures, and international organizations.
Since the past 50 years, Sabah Fakhry has been the sole one reviving the Muwashahat and khoudoud Halabiya. He is well known for his strong vocals and charismatic performances. Indeed, the world consider him as the Essence of the Arab Tarab, and a reference in the world music heritage. He is also an inspirational and influential artist because many young artists are following his steps, including his son “Anass”.
